Luton Churches Education Trust (LCET)

Details

LCET is passionate about making a real difference in Luton and ‘being there’ for young people at the right moment. They write "We're determined to move mountains to serve and support the teenagers we work with, and go the extra mile to see them reach their potential. We believe they deserve the best we can offer. It's an exciting journey and, on the way, we find ourselves inspired and challenged by the young people we meet."

LCET works in most of the secondary schools across Luton and has a chaplaincy team provides inspiration and challenge for the spiritual side of young peoples' lives. A therapeutic team which is committed to helping young people overcome issues that are having a negative effect on their emotional well-being and their educational achievement.

In addition they run Compass, which was launched in October 2009 with the aim of helping young people who have left school but haven't gone on to something else (the common term used is 'NEET', not in employment, education or training). We're passionate about helping young people overcome some of the social and emotional barriers that they face to re-engage in their future. Often it's personal issues, like low self worth, that hold young people back from achieving their potential. That's where we want to make a positive difference.

LCET has also been the prime mover in developing http://www.schoolswork.co.uk, http://www.selfharm.co.uk and http://www.weloveouryouthworker.org.uk, each providing support to those working with young people and young people themselves.
