The DVD (a partnership with Anorexia & Bulimia Care), comprising of 3 training programmes, aims to unpack the nature of different eating disorders, why they occur and what action should be taken to help young people work through the problems they face.
Dr Kate Middleton, of Anorexia & Bulimia Care, said "Eating disorders are a growing problem that anyone working with young people needs to be aware of. Current statistics suggest that 1 in 10 secondary school students will have some form of eating disorder, and as many as ¼ of girls admit that they are struggling with their eating. We know that youth leaders are on the front line and are often the first people to find out that someone has a problem."
This training DVD includes interviews with those who have experienced eating disorders first-hand, expert comment from members of the charity Anorexia & Bulimia Care and the experiences of current youth workers as they wrestle with the challenges of eating and dieting in contemporary youth culture.
Matt Summerfield, Executive Director of Urban Saints said, "If we believe that the Gospel is good news for the whole person then this is a vital issue for the church to engage in today. We hope that this video will give both church and youth leaders increased confidence in handling eating disorders as they arise".
