The Churches' Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS) is the only independent Christian charity providing professional advice, disclosure checks (CRB/ISA etc), support, training and resources in all areas of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and for those affected by abuse throughout the UK.
Their services are used not only by churches and groups across the denominational spectrum, but increasingly by other faiths as well as non-faith based organisations keen to utilise the resources and expertise they offer. They are a partner agency with CEOP, Child Exploitation & Online Protection Centre, and work closely with all statutory and third sector organisations involved in safeguarding.
As a diocese we have links with the Churches Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS) and each parish registers with CCPAS to get guidance on Safeguarding issues as well as access to CRB checks. Check out the CCPAS website to find out more.
If you are unsure whether your parish is registered talk to your vicar, churchwarden or designated child protection officer for the parish. If you are, they should have a username and password that enable you to access the CCPAS website and all its materials and support for those working with children and young people. If you find you are not registered you can contact CCPAS and ask how to do this as a parish within St Albans Diocese.
Under their resources, they have excellent 'Help' booklets -several of these have been written from a christian perspective for both adults and children whose lives have been affected by their own experiences of abuse. Others have been written for more general use. These are available for download or purchase from their website.
We've uploaded 2 of their 'Best Practice' guides which you'll find useful - 'I want my child to stay safe on the net' & 'I want to communicate safely' (this is a guide to using modern technologies such as email, SMS etc with young people).
The range of 'Help' booklets available are:
