A Winter Prayer

The other day I found myself moaning about the snow, I must be getting old!

It made me think about winter and, as I was leading prayers at the office this week I decided that would be my theme. Surprisingly little in Scripture about winter but I did find a prayer that I think is good and worth sharing. It comes from the Book of Uncommon Prayer 2.

Prayer for Winter
God, this is a season of rest. This is a season of warm blankets and fire-places and hot chocolate and two hands in one mitten. This is a season for the earth to sleep and plan its coming-out party. The cold is there so we know it's time to go inside. Let us sit closer together. Let us be there to keep each other warm. Let us watch the wonder of your seasons from the window. Let us laugh at the snow; let us feel the cold in our bones and remember that you created all the seasons, not just the ones we like. Let us remember that you have a purpose and a time and a place for all things. Just like the seasons. Amen.
