Hello Everyone!
Although this is rather late (a month after it happened in fact!), I just wanted to write a quick post to mention some of the things that were discussed at the November meeting of CEYC.
First up, we looked at spiritual development and how it can be encouraged in schools. We discussed what spiritual development is, whether it can be taught or whether it is something too personal and individualistic, that can only be encouraged. We also thought about what sort of spaces or times need to be available in the school environment and timetable for spiritual development. Many interesting points were contributed and the main debate centred on whether spiritual development can be separated from a relationship with God.
Our next discussion explored the challenges we face, to our faith, thinking about how we respond to those challenges and how we can live out our faith. We also thought about vocation; what it means, people in the Bible who were called by God, what their gifts were, what their weaknesses were, how God equipped them for the task to which he called them and how we can apply this to our lives and serve God according to our gifts.
We spent time praying together, worshipping together, studying the Bible together and generally sharing with each other and learning from each other.
At times we disagreed with one another but we also laughed a lot together. It was a good weekend and left me with lots to think about and I would really encourage you to get in touch with the Youth Office if you are interested in being involved with CEYC as it a great opportunity to meet people, to contribute to things being discussed in the wider Church of England and to be challenged and to grow in your faith and journey with God.
Hope everyone has a joyful and blessed Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
Rebekah
